What To Wear on a Date to the Zoo (Solved w/ Photos)

If you are trying to figure out what to wear on a date to the zoo, then this blog post is perfect for you.

To make it easier, I have included examples and pictures of different outfits for both men and women. Remember that the weather can vary dramatically at a zoo, so it’s important to dress appropriately.

What To Wear on a Date to the Zoo? (Answered)

When going on a date at the zoo, you should wear light, flexible clothing that matches the weather. Thick clothing might cause you to sweat. Very thin clothing may not keep you warm. Wear flexible clothing and comfortable shoes so that you can move about easily and without restriction.

What you wear will somewhat be determined by the temperature, weather, and your gender (don’t worry, we’ll cover all the bases in this post).

In general, here is what you’ll need:

  • Light clothing that isn’t too heavy because you’ll likely be walking for a few hours.
  • Flexible clothing that allows you to comfortably walk, crouch, and bend to view animals.
  • Comfortable shoes for walking (for example, tennis shoes or flats instead of flip flops).
  • Sunglasses to protect your eyes.
  • Hat to protect your head, eyes, and to help regulate your body temperature.
  • (Optional if allowed at your zoo) A carry bag with plenty of water and snacks like apples or bananas—the zoo can be very hot in warmer weather, so it’s important not to get dehydrated.

What to wear on a date

What To Wear on a Date to the Zoo (Female)

The first thing that I suggest when going on a date is to make sure that you are wearing comfortable clothing that also shows your personality. When you look and feel good, you can relax and focus on getting to know the other person. For example, you can wear a sundress or something else that is casual, breezy, and light.

One of the most important things you can do is to make sure you wear comfortable shoes—so no high heels or clunky sandals.

Light sandals, flats, or sneakers are probably your best bet.

Here are five example outfits for females:

  • A sleeveless dress or skirt with a loose top and flat shoes
  • Jeans, a tank, and sandals
  • Shorts/jean shorts paired with a cute t-shirt (or flannel) that is tied at the waist for an extra feminine touch
  • Dressy jeans, sneakers, and a button-down top
  • Sundress—They’re beautiful, comfortable, and perfect for sunny days!

Keep in mind that what you wear will also depend on the temperature. Always check the weather and dress appropriately. Don’t worry, I have your back!

What To Wear on a Date to the Zoo (Male)

I would recommend wearing shorts or light jeans, walking shoes, and some nice shirts. Since most zoos are outside, I also recommend dressing in layers because the weather might change quickly.

Here are five example outfits for men:

  • Light green polo shirt, brown shorts, tan loafers
  • Brown khaki pants or cargo shorts paired with a green short-sleeve button-down shirt
  • A black t-shirt with tan shorts (read What Color Should a Man Wear on a First Date)
  • A light blue dress shirt with jeans and tennis shoes
  • An aqua t-shirt over jeans

The most important thing is to feel comfortable, so don’t wear anything too tight, heavy, or restrictive.

What To Wear on a Date to the Zoo on a Hot Day

Most people go to the zoo when it’s warmer, so let’s talk about what to wear on a date on a hot day.

When it’s hot, ladies can wear a sundress or shorts and a t-shirt. You can also wear your favorite tank top, jeans, sneakers, and sunglasses to this date.

On the other hand, guys will want to be in shorts or pants with pockets for storing valuables like their wallet and phone so they don’t get lost at the zoo. A nice t-shirt or polo completes a perfect zoo outfit.

For both men and women, you’ll want to be in comfortable clothes, since walking around on a hot day can cause major fatigue.

Don’t forget to protect your skin with sunscreen or lotion with SPF!

What To Wear on a Date to the Zoo on a Cold Day

It’s just as important to know how to dress on a cold day at the zoo. If you show up in shorts or really thin clothing, you may end up freezing.

And that’s no way to feel on a date.

When it’s cold, you can wear jeans, leggings, and a sweater. If you’re wearing jeans or leggings with no tights, wear tall boots to keep your toes warm inside the thick material.

Don’t forget to bundle up with layers! Wear tights under your jeans or leggings and a sweater dress layered on top. You can wear a jacket, too, for extra warmth.

Men, you can put on a lightweight sweater paired with a collared shirt and pants or chinos. You could also wear jeans, a nice pull over or a long-sleeved shirt with a winter coat.

If it’s really cold out, you may want to bring gloves or mittens along for the trip.

What To Wear on a Date to the Zoo on a Rainy Day

What if it’s raining on the day of your date? You’ll want to change up your outfit and bring a raincoat or umbrella. There’s no reason to let a little rain ruin your date.

But what do you wear?

The short answer: Wear light clothing, appropriate footwear, and stay away from anything white.

Rainy dates can be some of the most fun. I’ve had many dates in the rain—from going out for drinks or sneaking into stadiums to dance in the bleachers (Shhhhh, don’t tell anyone).

Moisture-wicking fabrics are your best chance of staying dry all day so don’t forget to pack your favorite outfit that’s both elegant and climate-controlled!

Check out these lists of outfits for men and women that will keep you dry while still looking great.

Outfits/Accesories for Women:

  • Jeans with boots and some sort of waterproof jacket. Make sure there’s room to layer underneath the coat! It’ll get cold if you’re not prepared.
  • Leggings, a sweater, and a nice waterproof jacket.
  • Shorts, a t-shirt, and a nice raincoat with some cute boots or flats.

Outfits for Men:

  • Jeans and a turtleneck sweater that has room to layer underneath it (like a crew neck sweater).
  • Khakis and a polo shirt with sneakers or boots.
  • Shorts and a designer long-sleeved t-shirt.

Avoid wearing a very heavy coat or anything fancy. Instead, wear thinner clothing and/or short sleeves, preferably made with quick-drying or sweat dry fabric. I also recommend that you wear closed-toe shoes for protection against puddles on the ground.

Neutral colors can go with any other type of clothing.

In addition, if it starts to drizzle, you may want to bring an umbrella. There may be benches available near your chosen animal exhibit. Sit in one of these protected areas instead of hunkering down under damp tree branches or wandering around a large outdoor space like a soaked courtyard.

What To Wear on a Date to the Zoo on a Windy Day

Avoid wearing anything too high waisted, as they will be blown up or down by the wind. Tops with detachable hoods are great for added protection against the elements because they can be removed during periods of extreme gustiness.

You should also keep a thin scarf or wrap handy as an extra layer against chilly winds when standing outdoors for long periods of time.

Lastly, tweed-heavy weaves will also help keep you cozy and warm when shifts in temperature happen for no apparent reason. Think jazzier colors like navy or forest green to avoid blinding color contrasts that can reflect light onto sensitive eyes.

A few more considerations:

  • Avoid very loose clothing that will constantly blow around in the wind (You might spend the entire date trying to chase down a rouge accessory or annoyingly tugging at your clothes)
  • You may want to ditch hats that can blow away
  • Take some Chapstick to keep your lips moisturized and kissable

What NOT To Wear on a Date to the Zoo (6 Examples)

This is also the perfect time to mention what not to wear.

What NOT to wear to the zoo:

  • Skimpy clothing (unless there is a swimming area like at my zoo—and even then, probably wear something light over the top of your skimpier clothing until you are in the swimming area)
  • Fur coats
  • Anything formal
  • Uncomfortable shoes
  • Dress shoes
  • Anything flashy (it might upset the animals)

Why do your shoes matter so much? Dress shoes can be uncomfortable for walking around the zoo. If it rains, some shoes can get dirty or very slippery. If you don’t want your date feeling sorry for you, don’t wear shoes that rub your feet raw. You don’t want to spend the entire date in excruciating pain!

What To Wear to the Zoo in Singapore

Singapore is one of the most densely populated countries in the world.

This makes it difficult for Singaporeans to enjoy their outdoors and not be bothered by mosquitos, flies, bees, or other bugs. In order to stay healthy and avoid getting bitten by mosquitoes while walking around Singapore, you should wear Deet repellant and light clothing that covers large swaths of your skin.

While this may be true, it’s also important to remember that Singapore has a tropical climate, and so wearing too many clothes can be just as problematic.

You should wear light, flexible clothing made from sweat-wicking fibers. Avoid heavy clothing like jeans. Locals tend to wear shorts or long, thin pants that protect their skin.

You may also want to bring an umbrella with shade protection or a sun hat with a brim—this will help protect your skin from damage due to overexposure to UV rays. You’ll also need water and sunscreen (SPF 15 +) as well as insect repellent containing DEET because mosquitoes can carry dengue fever, which is deadly!

What To Wear to the Zoo in Dubai

Dubai is a major tourist attraction and one of the largest cities in the United Arab Emirates. If you are planning on visiting Dubai, then you will want to dress appropriately when you visit the zoo.

The best thing to wear to the zoo in Dubai is loose-fitting clothing that meets local modesty requirements.

You do not want anything that will restrict your movement or cause you any discomfort while walking around in the hot temperature with limited shade from trees.

Please note that there is a cultural public dress code for women in Dubai. As a woman, you will probably be required to cover your knees and shoulders. Anything revealing will likely get you blocked from entering the zoo.

Final Thoughts

The most important thing to remember about going on a date at the zoo is your overall comfort.
